AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

The automobile industry is among the sectors that have been hit most by the recession. Demand for cars fell sharply, accentuating the difficulties of excess production capacity already faced before the crisis and deepening the economic downturn in major car-producing countries. Relative to the general downturn, the decline in car sales was nonetheless not deeper than what was observed in the past. An Automobile is a self propelled vehicle which contains the power source for its propulsion and is used for carrying passengers and goods on the ground, such as car, bus, trucks, etc., automobiles are added every year, and it is expected to rise to 55.84 million by 2028, still much lesser than the global average vehicle penetration. India is the 5th largest car manufacturer, 7th largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and largest manufacturer of two wheelers in the world. It is estimated that by 2020 the automobile industry in India will be the third largest in the World after China and USA.

A number of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in transport, which fall under the umbrella of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) are being used for improving connectivity and efficiency of urban and rural transport. In India, ITS is at its nascent stages. Most uses of ICT technologies that have so far been restricted application of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) technologies on national and state highways, use of technologies for tracking, surveillance and information systems on public transport, and parking management systems in cities.

Product Experts or Design Experts are those professions who look into the design aspects of the vehicle and the testing of the systems of the automobile. Manufacturing Professionals are related to activities which require creation and assembling of all the parts of the automobiles which are created by the development engineers. The development engineers take care of the activities which involve the connecting of all systems in a completed vehicle. Automobile professionals call for expert training, a lot of hard work, perseverance, grit and commitment.

Career Options in Automobile Industry:

These career choices include professionals like Automobile Engineers who are mainly classified into three streams like Design or Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and Development Engineers. Automobile professionals can also handle the visual appearance or aesthetics of vehicles and contribute to the creation of concepts for vehicles. These people are known as the Automotive Designers. There are Automobile Trainee who create new business concepts. Apart from this there are other professionals like Officer-Accounts, Marketing Executive and Corporate communication, Marketing Head, Head of Vehicle Platform, AutoCAD Designer and Quality Systems Audit Manager etc. who look into various aspects of Automobile industry.
